Default want advice- Mixing bass with other tracks
I am a bass player, and all the songs i write and wish to record are on my bass. I am trying to record some bass lines over a track for a buddy and I need some advice on how to get my bass to sound louder in the track.

I use several different programs because I never really figured out how to do leveling. I use Ableton, Adobe Audition, and Sonar 7(though i am most familiar with ableton). I set up my audio track and imported the music file into a separate track and am going to record my bass in the mix.

I have tried using the software mixer to turn down the volume of the song and boost the bass track volume up but i fear that it will overall make the whole track more quiet. I record my bass through a M-audio fast track ultra and i run the bass straight through so I don't have to mic an amp and worry about placement to get the best sound.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some answers to help me.
